Lindy Lee is an Australian artist who explores her Chinese ancestry through Taoism and Ch’an (Zen) Buddhism – philosophies that see humanity and nature as inextricably linked. Lee’s works are intentionally slow to impart their secrets. Rather than singular visual statements, they are thoughtful objects where meaning emerges from sustained meditation.
Lee’s sculpture, One Bright Pearl, has a highly polished, mirror-like surface that during the daytime reflects the community and natural environment it inhabits. A specific pattern of holes symbolizes an arrangement of stars, planets, and cosmic bodies to remind us of things universal to us all — the blessing of life and the chance we all have for renewal. At night, One Bright Pearl lights up from within transforming into a beacon of light, a heavenly body here on Earth. One Bright Pearl is a breathtaking, calming vision both during the day and at night intended as a blessing of vitality and energy.
